On September 16th, 2013, the IRHiS team organizes our second platform workshop: “Evaluation of the Brussels retrofit market: state-of-the-art and main barriers and success factors”. It will take place at the ULB-CEESE department.

The workshop will give a global perspective on the Brussels retrofit market, focusing on:

• the general context of the region (demography, age pyramid, proportion of owners/tenants, regulations and public supports, etc.)
• the building stock and its main characteristics,
• the demand (ownership typology and socio-economic characteristics, etc.)
• the offer and market activities (enterprises active in the renovation sector, renovation rate, kind of renovation activities, characteristics of the labour market in the construction sector, etc.).

On the basis of these observations, a literature review of the introduction of new technologies in an existing socio-technic system and of several interviews with “experts” in the retrofit sector, main barriers and success factors were analyzed. Potential solutions and thoughts on how to exploit the success factors and avoid the barriers will be suggested.
